Day 158, Morning

Today’s morning meditation is available below in audio and script formats. The audio version is also available for free download on the player.

Reading

Unlike your ancestors, you didn’t come to the mountain—all that volcanic blaze and earthshaking rumble—to hear God speak. The earsplitting words and soul-shaking message terrified them and they begged God to stop. When they heard the words—“If an animal touches the Mountain, it’s as good as dead”—they were afraid to move. Even Moses was terrified.

No, that’s not your experience at all. You’ve come to The Mountain Of God and the city where the living God resides. The invisible city is populated by throngs of angels and good citizens. You’ve come to Jesus, who presents us with a new promise, a fresh charter from God. Jesus is the Mediator of this covenant. The murder of Jesus, unlike Abel’s, a homicide that cried out for vengeance, became a proclamation of grace.

—Hebrews 12 (NT)

Stillness

As your day begins, spend a few moments in silence and stillness. As thoughts about the coming day begin to flood your mind, bring your mind back to God’s grace and faithfulness.

Prayer

Ascended Savior, fix my eyes on you, glorious and seated at the right hand of God. Let this vision of your heavenly reign—active, engaged, and working for my good—move me here on earth to live with a childlike humility in your care and steady courage in the face of opposition, all the while finding joy and gratitude welling up within me, a life pleasing to you and a benefit to the watching world. That’s a big order to deliver, but you are faithful to do it. Amen. (CD)
